How to Track Your Web Video ROI

What is the point of your web video?  Do you have clearly defined goals and methods to measure the video’s success?  There are a few reasons why you should track your web video marketing.  While this may seem obvious, it can easily get lost in the fold.  You want to know where your new contacts are coming from, right?  Do you want  to improve your video to get more contacts?  Measuring the success of your videos will do just that.  Here are a few tips for tracking your video ROI:

  • URL’s – You need to have an account setup on a site like GoDaddy.com so you can buy URL’s when you need them.  Your videos should include a call to action. Make sure it directs visitors to a unique URL, and be sure to set up a 301 redirect to get your visitors to the correct landing page.  This is way easier than it sounds and if you already have a Google Analytics account set up, you will be able to see how many people came in through that URL.  Set up unique URL’s for video, PPC and print advertising.  Make sure they are easy to remember!
  • Whenever you link to your videos, use a bit.ly or a similar service to track them.  This way you’ll be able to track visitors even if they forward this link along to their friends.
  • Surveys – People don’t mind being polled if there is an incentive.  Create and send an email to your new customers to find out where they found you.  Offer a free book, report or coupon to give them a good reason to respond!

Once, you collect some data, its time to analyze!  If you find that some videos are more successful than others, identify the reason and act on it.  You may even want to come up with a “cost per contact” and a “cost per client” so you’ll know how much you need to spend for future marketing.  If you are ready to create a professional web video, aimed at converting viewers, it is time to call the Fairfax Video Studio at 877.477.STUDIO or fill out a contact form online.
