How YouTube Compares to its Competition

YouTube is the largest online video sharing site in the world with over 2 billion hits per day.  To put that number into perspective, think of the primetime viewership of the three major television networks in the United States. YouTube's 2 billion daily views are more than double that of all three stations combined!  YouTube viewership is growing and D.C. video production companies, such as Fairfax Video Studio, are producing YouTube videos for clients.

On average, about 24 hours worth of video is uploaded onto YouTube every minute, with the average viewer spending about 15 minutes per day watching these videos. In a 60-day period, there are more video uploads to YouTube than all the original programming the 3 major television networks have produced in the past 60 years.

There’s Hardly Any Competition

There are other video sharing sites around the web that try to compete with YouTube. However, based on the aforementioned stats, there is no competition.

Let’s look at some figures from a marketing perspective.  In 2009, YouTube's partners reported that their ad revenues combined have tripled, and Advertising Age reports that 94 of their top 100 advertisers ran YouTube campaigns.  It goes to show that these top companies are sticking with what works best.

Owned by Google

Another major advantage YouTube has over its competition is that it is owned by Google, the world’s largest search engine. YouTube is the world’s 2nd largest search engine. With the partnership of these two giants, they now offer high priority search rankings for YouTube results on Google search.  This means that with a YouTube campaign, you are simultaneously deploying a marketing campaign and enhancing your ability to be found by prospective clients on search engines!
