Netflix Getting Dedicated Buttons on Some TV Remotes

Television and online video are headed toward full integration. If you purchase a new television in the next few years, you may notice that your remote contains a Netflix button. Historically known for movie rentals via mail and streaming videos over the internet, Netflix may become a part of your traditional television experience.

Netflix's television integration opens the door for YouTube to follow Netflix's lead.  YouTube has steadily transformed itself from an amateur video hosting site to a video streaming behemoth. YouTube recently decided to offer movie rentals- a move that many consider to be a direct challenge to Netflix.  If YouTube also becomes directly accessible via television, your videos produced by your local Virginia video production company would be available for streaming to television. This move by YouTube would increase the potential viewing audience of your YouTube video campaign by a large margin.

With dedicated Netflix buttons, hardware products designed to stream online video to your television without a computer, like Google TV and Roku, may become obsolete.

This move by Netflix has created an emerging market. It's unknown if other companies, like YouTube, will attempt to compete. As consumers, we can only hope for more competition. Competition breads innovation and variety; we get to select the winners, as we did when we choose Blu-ray format over HD-DVD.

This is further proof that online video is becoming an integral element of media consumption, whether it be on a smartphone, tablet, computer, or even a television. As the available bandwidth increases in this country, more high definition videos will be available online.  If you haven't started offering online videos, get on board and take advantage of "screen convergence".  Give us a call for a consultation today at 888-477-STUDIO, and don't forget to order a copy of our free Video Marketing DVD.
