The Significance of Amazon’s Kindle Fire

Amazon's release of the Kindle Fire is the latest development in the expansion of web video. The Kindle Fire is similar in design and purpose to Apple's iPad; however, it is less feature-rich to help bring it down to its $200 starting price. The price makes the Kindle Fire a game-changer in the emerging tablet market, but the real news is its video streaming service.

With the Kindle Fire, Amazon Prime users can stream television shows, movies, and online videos to their device via Wi-Fi. The Kindle Fire only has 8 gigabytes of internal flash memory; however, the concept for the Fire is that users will adopt "cloud" computing and store most of their web video content online. Kindle Fire users can purchase a movie and have it catalogued through their Amazon account. When they wish to view the movie, they can stream or download it to their device and watch it on the go. The movie (or other content) will always be available to stream or download again, so it can be safely deleted from the Kindle Fire's hard drive.

The significance of devices like the Kindle Fire is that video is becoming sharper, faster, and more prevalent on mobile devices. This means that video has truly been recognized by the market as a valuable and desirable commodity. The Kindle Fire signifies that mobile video is here to stay.

While the Kindle Fire does not offer mobile broadband yet, many other tablets and smart phones do. Amazon's cloud concept for the Kindle Fire aims to show how affordable and capable a mobile multi-media device can be. You cannot afford to ignore this trend when considering your web marketing campaigns. Over the next few years, these devices will be pervasive and a major avenue for spreading the message about your company.
