First, you must consider whether or not you can do it yourself. Then you decide to leave it to the pros and begin your search for the best company.

As with any investment, you want to make sure that you are getting the best value, the best customer service and the most professional assistance. “Video production” covers quite a wide array of services. Think about what exactly it is you need. If you want Web video, include this in your search. If you are looking to have an event covered, make sure to tell Google this. Find local companies and reviews by clicking the “Maps” tab.

The Website - Once you have narrowed down your search to a few prospective companies, check out their website. Is it organized and informative? If they have videos (every video production company should have videos on their site!), focus on those since they are probably done in-house. They should be to the point, professional looking and the colors and overall feel should complement the site.

Contact Them! - Shoot them an email or give them a call. A good company wants to help and wants you to have all the information you need.

Take the steps necessary to feel good about your investment. Think of your contractors as an extension of your company since potential customers will associate the two. Good luck with your search and feel free to call US anytime!

http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/choosing%2Dthe%2Dbest%2Dvideo%2Dproduction%2Dcompany%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/choosing%2Dthe%2Dbest%2Dvideo%2Dproduction%2Dcompany%2Ecfm blog@www.fairfaxvideostudio.com (blog Author)35471 Wed, 21 Jul 2010 08:00:00 EST Simple Steps to Better Photography Digital imaging technology is moving faster than anyone can keep up with. With all the advancements in digital photography, shouldn't cameras be able to do the work for you? If you have ever tried to capture the orange glow of a sunset or your child running around a soccer field, you know that it isn't easy to create the picture that you imagined in your mind before you pressed the shutter. The hard-hitting truth about photography is that great photos are made long before you take them.

In the digital age, cameras have become inexpensive and portable and yet incredibly powerful. One very important factor hasn’t changed...the camera cannot read your mind! In order to take great photos, or even just better photos, you need to learn how to use your camera. Here are a few simple adjustments that can be made on every $100 point-and-shoot camera, as well as professional DSLRs:

ISO - This is a measurement of how sensitive your camera is to light. Low ISO is less sensitive, but provides better quality while high ISO means more sensitive, but more “noise” (aka lower quality). Use low ISO for daytime portraits and group shots, but use a high ISO for moving objects and poor lighting.

Exposure Compensation - This is a basic measure of brightness usually calculated in thirds. Don’t worry about the numbers! Higher number equals brighter; lower and negative numbers equal darker. Brighter, however is not always better. Bring your exposure compensation down a bit if the sun or another bright light source is washing out colors.

Move! - EVERY camera allows you to try a different angle, move your subjects around and compose your photo differently. Don’t settle for a mediocre picture without thinking about what made you want to take the picture in the first place. Refine your photo until it looks just how you want. Anyone can be a better photographer with a little effort!

http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/simple%2Dsteps%2Dto%2Dbetter%2Dphotography%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/simple%2Dsteps%2Dto%2Dbetter%2Dphotography%2Ecfm blog@www.fairfaxvideostudio.com (blog Author)35082 Thu, 15 Jul 2010 08:00:00 EST The Web Video Script There are precious few among us who are quick, witty and intrepid enough to present to an audience with no preparation. We should thank our lucky stars that we no longer have to physically cut and paste film! We can shoot more video and edit quickly and efficiently, although the skills required to do so should never be underrated. Insert text and music where appropriate, but focus mostly on the visuals and dialogue you have captured on film.

Don’t get too fancy! Yes, there are a lot of neat little tricks in video editing software, but don’t get carried away. Digital editing opens up a number of possibilities, some of which are wonderful and some of which are a distraction. Simple is almost always better!

Ideally, your video will be so seamlessly produced that no viewer will take the time to think about it. That means a camera with charged batteries, lighting, a tripod, a list of potential questions, and any assorted cables that may be necessary.

Nothing will sour your interviewee’s take on your professional manner faster than not being prepared to do what you came to do. It is necessary to remember that often the person you are interviewing is taking time out for his or her day to accommodate you, so the least you can do is be fast and efficient in getting the information you need.

When setting up where the interview will occur, do not make your subject sit in place as you are setting up. Instead, only have them sit at the last moment; this will help in keeping his or her morale up and will in turn create a more effective interview. Also, make sure that you position a chair for yourself, as well, because if you are moving then your subject will be looking around to follow you. That will end up distracting your audience!

Your camera needs to be set up perfectly both in visual and audio respects. The camera should be cropped up tightly on the interviewee, so there are no distracting movements in the background. Bring headphones and use them to set up your audio levels, because the camera will hear things differently than your ear.

Interested in having the Fairfax Video Studio interview you on camera? However, could that moment have happened anywhere or does the viewer need to know where that shot was taken? In some cases, it is beneficial to shoot in such a way that gives a generic background that could be found in Anytown, USA. Yet, more often it is better to “anchor the shot” with a few key panning shots of the camera.

“Anchoring the shot” refers to adding a tangible visual reminder that the viewer can see and recognize. Doing so provides more insight to the viewer about your shooting location. This is especially helpful if you are filming at a famous location, such as the Statue of Liberty or on the black sand beaches of Hawaii.

This shot can be accomplished by finding the most notable landmark within your immediate shooting vicinity and focusing in on it. You can use it as a starting point for whatever shot you are looking to accomplish. If you will be shooting in multiple locations beginning with panoramic shots that introduce each location can help eliminate any confusion among your viewers. It is not necessary to do this type of shot every time and it is best utilized as your first shot in a sequence.

Not “anchoring your shot” can also have its advantages. Your shot can be made location neutral so that it will be easier to show in different markets.

Interested in working with the Fairfax Video Studio? The fundamental difference between the way video is made for large screens and the way it should be made for computer screens has to do with how viewers digest the shots.

On a large screen, you can have long, slow, panning shots because the screen size allows the viewer to study all the details. This is not the case with Web video, as it does not allow viewers to pick up on details, causing them to quickly become bored with the shot.

That is why close ups work so well for Web video. It gives the viewer the largest amount of visual information on smaller formats. Also, when shooting your close up, try to use a tripod or other stable shooting surface as high compression Web video has a hard time processing great amounts of movement. The high compression and movement can cause pixilation around the edges of where the fast motion is happening.

Try and use fewer effects as well, as they can become pixilated under the high compression that most Web video requires. In addition to pixilation, too many effects can be distracting to your viewers and take away from the message you are trying to convey.

Knowing the difference between what works on the Web and what works on the big screen will help you in developing quality Web video.

At the Fairfax Video Studio, we are always conscious of what shots we use to create your video in order to give it the highest quality possible. It is natural for products and technologies to evolve over time and gain in complexity, which only stands to give your video a greater fit and finish.

When encountering a new piece of editing or final production software, your best bet is to either navigate it with someone who already has a level of proficiency with the program, or delve into the manual (which is often more confusing than helpful!). As this person goes through his or her speech the frame slowly zooms out to reveal the person is alone and in the middle of an open field or on top of a building. Ever wondered how this high quality sound was obtained without the use of a boom mic? Well, with the advances in sound recording equipment and great leaps in lens tech, this shot is becoming more and more available to the casual videographer.

What is needed to obtain this type of effect is a quality lapel mic that will broadcast a radio signal back to the camera. This will allow the camera to be virtually anywhere depending on the broadcast power of the mic. Some experimentation will be needed to figure out just how far the mic will be able to reach, while still producing a quality signal.

A lens will be needed that is able to obtain long shots, as well as zoom out and show a wide angle of view. These shots are known as “reveals,” because they only show a small portion of the action to the audience, then zoom out to reveal more of the scene. It may not be feasible for you to take three different cameras, lights, multiple microphones, a myriad of cables, tape, and tripods with you. You may be able to use less equipment to do everything you need, but it could require additional work.

The more remote your video production is going to be, the more you will have to be willing to weigh the actuality of what you want vs. what you need.

When bringing less equipment to the video shoot, try to remember that every piece of gear that you bring should be able to serve multiple purposes and be functional in many environments. For instance, the microphone that you choose should be both adept at capturing human voice and natural ambient sound. There is not one perfect do-it-all microphone out there, but again, balancing what you need with what you want will help guide you towards what you will end up physically carrying with you.

Keep in mind that your camera will also need to be able to shoot at the distances, resolution, and light conditions that you may encounter.

At the Fairfax Video Studio, we are always conscious of what gear we use to shoot your video, in order to give it the highest quality possible. When playing back video during editing, you might begin to notice sounds on your reel that you didn’t observe while shooting in the field. The problem is that some of the sounds that you didn’t notice before could make your video clips all but unusable. There is a better way and it comes down to training your ear and becoming a proactive listener to what is truly going on in your surroundings.

The human ear has the unique ability to hear sounds and then disregard them once the brain has identified them. Mostly this process happens subconsciously in the brain. Noises that are often not heard, but can be detrimental, are typically road noise, leaves rustling in trees, or heating/air-conditioning fans that go on and off in a building. These are all sounds that we hear daily, so our ear and brain are less likely to pick up on them when shooting video.

It is possible to train your ear and practice being an active listener. This can be accomplished by sitting quietly and trying to identify 10 individual and unique noises. The goal is to pick apart the ambient noise and discover its makeup. Once you can do this, you are well on your way to avoiding surprises during the editing process.

To find out how the Fairfax Video Studio can help you with creating a powerful, high quality video, contact us today at 877.477.STUDIO.
http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/achieve%2Dbetter%2Dsound%2Din%2Dvideo%2Dproduction%2Dby%2Dtraining%2Dyour%2Dear%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/achieve%2Dbetter%2Dsound%2Din%2Dvideo%2Dproduction%2Dby%2Dtraining%2Dyour%2Dear%2Ecfm blog@www.fairfaxvideostudio.com (blog Author)32644 Wed, 02 Jun 2010 08:00:00 EST Understand the Mechanics of Your Video Camera One of the most important, if not the most crucial elements of the actual act of shooting a video, is the ability to have a complete and in depth understanding of how your camera works in a mechanical sense.

With today’s technology it is becoming easier and easier to just pick up a camera and press a button and begin the camera recording. Also, many camera settings can be run automatically, which is a huge convenience to both the amateur videographer and the experienced cinematographer who is strapped for time. However, the automatic settings as of now are unable to match the quality that a manually adjusted setting can afford.

One key feature that all videographers should know is how to use their camera’s white balance. White balance is a feature that resets the color value that is given to white and in turn makes all of your other colors look more true to life. If you do not know how to use the white balance then your video is bound to come out looking dingy or overtly bright and washed out.

Another feature that you should know how to operate is the ability to turn on and off both the manual focus and zoom. There is a new world that is opened up when you realize the endless shots that can be accomplished when the camera is not trying to auto focus all the time. Many artistic panning zoom shots that fade in and out of focus can be added to your filming repertoire.

To find out how the Fairfax Video Studio can help you with your video production needs, contact us today at 877.477.STUDIO. http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/understand%2Dthe%2Dmechanics%2Dof%2Dyour%2Dvideo%2Dcamera%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/understand%2Dthe%2Dmechanics%2Dof%2Dyour%2Dvideo%2Dcamera%2Ecfm mindy@fosterwebmarketing.com (blog Author)32182 Thu, 27 May 2010 08:00:00 EST Tricks to Creating High Quality Sports Videos Shooting a video of a sporting event can simultaneously be thrilling and rewarding because of the high action level of the content being filmed. It may seem overwhelming to try and fathom how you will be able to cover so much action happening on such a large field, but with a few simple tricks you can create a beautifully shot sports video.

It is always best to take into consideration where the majority of action will be happening on the field and where players will frequent the most. For instance, if you are covering a golf event and are looking to get the shots that are most crucial to the round, then you will want to position yourself at either the tee or the hole. In hockey, soccer, football, and basketball, you should ensure that you have a decent view of both of the goals, so that the viewer can see the big picture when it comes time to edit the video.

A consideration that should be made before arriving at the sporting event is what the location will be like when you are shooting. Is it inside or outside? Will the weather be adverse or entirely sunny and pristine? Knowing the conditions in which you will be shooting will help you to make decisions regarding gear, lenses, and microphones.

To find out how the Fairfax Video Studio can help you film your event, contact us today at 877.477.STUDIO.
http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/tricks%2Dto%2Dcreating%2Dhigh%2Dquality%2Dsports%2Dvideos%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/tricks%2Dto%2Dcreating%2Dhigh%2Dquality%2Dsports%2Dvideos%2Ecfm mindy@fosterwebmarketing.com (blog Author)32173 Wed, 26 May 2010 08:00:00 EST Pick Music That Enhances Your Video When shooting a video, music is a very important part of the equation and can impact the video either good or bad. With just a few helpful ideas in mind you can be well on your way to producing a video that has music that compliments and even enhances your content.

The first thing to keep in mind is an understanding of what your music is saying to your audience. If the artist or owner of the music says that they do not what their music to be used, then YouTube can, on the artist's behalf, either cut the user’s video or just disable sound from being played back within the video.

This has caused quite a stir on YouTube because of an idea called fair use doctrine. It states that a copyrighted piece of material may be used if it is for a limited and "transformative" purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody. A lot of what this doctrine is founded upon is an attempt to not stifle the open exchange of ideas, but to allow for open peer review and criticism.

The term “transformative” has been defined very loosely, especially by those who favor net neutrality. At the heart of the issue is whether or not your YouTube video that utilizes a copyrighted song is considered to be fair use or not.

Do home movies that have copyrighted music in them fall under the fair use doctrine? That answer is not always clear. http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/the%2Dfair%2Duse%2Ddoctrines%2Dimpact%2Don%2Dweb%2Dvideo%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/the%2Dfair%2Duse%2Ddoctrines%2Dimpact%2Don%2Dweb%2Dvideo%2Ecfm mindy@fosterwebmarketing.com (blog Author)31786 Wed, 19 May 2010 08:00:00 EST A Poorly Made Web Video May Send the Wrong Impression The Internet is bursting with videos these days and it is not just YouTube with user submitted content. When the Fairfax Video Studio approached potential clients about creating web videos, many responded with, "Who'd watch me talking?" We think that's a pretty bad attitude; if a potential client comes to you for a consultation, he is going to judge you in the office the same way he would when watching a video online. More importantly, most potential clients searching for your services online are more interested in the substance of what you're saying rather than how great you look on camera.

However before making your video, a lot must be discussed. You've got to decide the topic, the length, what to say, and whether to do your own video or to hire a production company to do it for you. Not only that, but you will have to learn how to optimize your videos so that search engines identify the videos. As a result, your website's search engine rankings will improve, and it will appear naturally when someone searches for it.

Here are some other tips from the Fairfax Video Studio:

A video that tells visitors who you are and welcomes them is already headed in the right direction. To get potential visitors to call, it takes more than a flashy website with pretty pictures. Don't do what everyone else does; let the Fairfax Video Studio help you distinguish yourself from your competitors. http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/establish%2Dyour%2Dpresence%2Don%2Dthe%2Dweb%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/establish%2Dyour%2Dpresence%2Don%2Dthe%2Dweb%2Ecfm blog@www.fairfaxvideostudio.com (blog Author)24596 Wed, 06 Jan 2010 08:00:00 EST Differentiate Yourself from your Competitors in your Advertisements Those of us at the Fairfax Video Studio cannot stress enough to you the importance of differentiating yourself from your competitors. These things only matter to a certain extent - potential clients want to know if you will be able to solve their problems. Your website must also be easily found by search engines; the reality is that if your site is not coming up on the first or second page of Google, it is highly unlikely that someone searching for a company in your industry will call you.

Practice tips from professionals here at the Fairfax Video Studio:

Prospective clients want to know how your brilliant product or service will help them or solve their problem. Read on to learn how video is created, produced and uploaded.

The video pre-production phase involves strategy with business owners to determine how to get their points across best. Ask yourself what questions new clients typically ask you when they first come into your office for a consultation. These questions will form a set of videos; you'll realize that you have tons of information to put in a video and to put online.

The production stage is the video shoot itself. A team of people comes in and takes over your office; they're setting up lighting and the video camera, plugging in electrical devices, setting up sound equipment and microphones. Choose a shooting location that will be easy to eliminate background noise.

When decided how long your video will be, keep in mind that there is no perfect answer. With online video, we think two to four or five minutes in length is appropriate. If a viewer has a pressing issue, he has no problem watching a few minutes of your video if you are answering a topic that applies to him.

After the production stage, we enter the post-production stage. If you have a one-hour video, it will take at least six hours to edit the video so it's ready for use. They must also be optimized for the video and regular search engines.

This can be a complicated process. You want to make the best impression possible.

Introduce yourself. Welcome your viewer and thank them for a moment of their time.

Timing is everything. When creating and editing your own videos and you realize you went on a verbal rampage with no clear line of thought, it's best to edit the garbage out.

Check your video for errors before and after it goes live. Just as a good video can help you, a bad video can destroy your credibility.

Search Engine Optimization is the key to getting your video indexed by Google and other search engines.

Use a lapel microphone. A wireless lapel microphone picks up your voice clearly and is well worth the investment.

Use tried and true lighting methods. You can get a reasonably well-outiftted set of fluorescent lights, stands and poles from under $1,000.

Don't forget about the accompanying sidebar. Beyond the video, the accompanying text in the sidebar must have your business' location, address, phone number, and website.

Don't promote your producer. There is no reason to share the spotlight with the production company you use to create your video; it distracts the viewer from looking for your contact information during your introduction.

Give concrete examples of issues that clients have had in the past and how you have helped them.

Call the Fairfax Video Studio. That's because the attorneys in his firm, Kiley Law Group, have won for their clients over $100 million in compensation. We made some great videos of him discussing just a few of the areas that his firm handles: birth injuries, child injury and abuse, and product liability. While discussing automobile accidents, he gave great advice regarding motorcycle safety. As motorcycle enthusiasts ourselves, we were really able to soak that up and it made our time with Tom that much more meaningful. For example, loud pipes: Tom loves them; I HATE them. But they might make the roads safer for motorcyclists.

Tom is also enthusiastic about using on-air talent to populate his website with relevant videos that help victims. Although it's nice to have yourself all over your website, it's also important to be diverse in professional video presentations. Fairfax Video Studio does that through our exclusive text-to-video platform. Instead of a client coming in to be live on location, a script is sent in and read by a professional actor who may be best suited to tell a story on a particular topic. We had a great time with Tom and look forward to helping him convert his website's visitors into clients.
http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/fvs%2Dshoots%2Dthe%2Dmillion%2Ddollar%2Dman%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/fvs%2Dshoots%2Dthe%2Dmillion%2Ddollar%2Dman%2Ecfm blog@www.fairfaxvideostudio.com (blog Author)20008 Wed, 14 Oct 2009 08:00:00 EST South Florida Lawyer Evan Fetterman has Great Advice
Evan Fetterman, from Palm Springs, Florida, came in to Fairfax Video Studio today to record video clips that will be uploaded onto his webpage and YouTube which will aid in converting visitors. He's a pretty traditional guy, and he's used to doing commercials for his law firm. However, he wasn't used to standing in front of a state-of-the-art green screen without the comfort of a memorized script or teleprompter. He proceeded to belt out over 30 diverse informational video clips of that will be used to help accident victims. We were definitely impressed.

His firm focuses primarily on protecting the rights of people going up against large insurance companies in many areas: motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, and personal injuries claims, to name a few. He discussed various topics from what to expect the minute you call his office, to texting while driving, to what to do first if you've been involved in a car accident.

Fairfax Video Studio helps businesses convert online visitors to clients through effective web video.

http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/fetterman%2Dassociates%2Ecfm http://www.fairfaxvideostudio.com/blog/fetterman%2Dassociates%2Ecfm blog@www.fairfaxvideostudio.com (blog Author)19949 Tue, 13 Oct 2009 08:00:00 EST
