Is 3D Video the Way of the Future?
The world of video production never stops evolving. Technology advances and we are forced to think outside the box. First, we transitioned silent movies to ones with sound. Then we transitioned from black and white to color. We have now moved to high-definition and video is getting sharper every few months. Once the technology is established, producers and creative thinkers find every possible way to use it. What will be the next great thing in video? Many people think that 3D is no fad, but the way of the future. 3D is not totally new - it was first experimented with by Sir Charles Wheatstone in 1838. The idea is to trick the human eye into thinking there is more depth than there actually is. The effect is objects “jumping” off the screen at viewers. It gets much more technical than that, but let’s suffice to say that the technology is quite impressive. The experience of the viewer is totally different. The question now becomes, is it better than normal HD video?
For now, the comparison is apples to oranges. Not all viewers want to wear special glasses to watch movies, TV and Web videos. On the other hand, producers need to keep trying new things to grab the attention of an audience. Expect this debate to come to light over the next few years as 3D televisions become mainstream and more movies are made this way.
