Why Are Cinematographers So Excited About HDSLR?
One of the newest and greatest things to hit the video production industry is the HDSLR camera. Cinematographers have been raving about this new technology that basically merges still cameras and video, resulting in high quality footage.HDSLR refers to digital single lens reflex cameras that have the capability to shoot high definition (HD) video. It is basically a combination of a still and movie camera with at least 720p24 high definition movie mode. The HDSLR is the new DSLR.
Professionals within the industry have embraced the HDSLR camera for many reasons including the fact that these cameras have full-frame or cropped sensors and are convenient. However, there’s more. These cameras are able to produce amazing shallow depth-of-field, which is the goal of many experienced cinematographers.

Sensor Size
There is no question that there is a link between the sensor size of a camera and the quality of the image. For the most part, the larger sensor gives a wider latitude and dynamic range and a low signal to noise ratio. The sensors that are incorporated in HDSLRs are bigger than the ones that are in digicam-style cameras, giving better image results and more options.
Shallow Depth-of-Field
A shallow depth-of-field refers to the practice of focusing on a subject, while leaving the rest out of focus. The subject is isolated from the background, which allows the cinematographer to control where the audience’s attention is placed. If everything were kept sharp, it would be easier for the audience to become distracted and miss out on the message that the cinematographer was trying to portray.
The HDSLR camera is expected to revolutionize the video industry and it appears that it has already started.
