YouTube Enhances User Experience With Launch of "Medals" Recognizing Top Content
For some time, YouTube has employed an “Honors” system in which the most viewed videos within specific categories are recognized for their popularity. However, on Wednesday the web video sharing powerhouse unveiled YouTube “Medals”, a new kind of honors system in which top videos receive gold, silver and bronze medals in various categories- thus making it easier for viewers to spot top videos within the site.
The program will monitor achievements in view counts in three categories:
All Time Most Popular (videos with top lifetime view counts)
Recently Most Popular (videos with high views/likes in past 7 days)
Trending (videos with recent growth in viewership)
Each of the three categories is separated into gold, silver and bronze medals. Gold “medalists” in the all-time most popular category include LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”, Justin Bieber’s “Baby”, and the only non-music video to fit into the "all-time" category, the 2007 viral video “Charlie Bit My Finger”.

Each category has its own topics page on the site. Viewers can subscribe to each category as its own channel to be notified of updates and new videos receiving the honors.
