The "red dot award: product design" is a world-class award presented by Germany's Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. The award recognizes products over the past two years that demonstrate superiority in terms of nine separate aspects, including innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecology and durability. Over 4,400 different products from 1,700 different companies in 60 countries around the world were entered into competition. The Nikon D7000 camera along with other red dot winners, including three other Nikon cameras, will be exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany over the 2011 summer.
The D7000 is a mid-level DX-format digital-SLR camera with a compact body and a host of advanced functions. The camera comes equipped with a DX-format CMOS sensor, the new EXPEED 2 image processing engine, a 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor, an AF system utilizing 39 focus points, and the D-Movie function that supports the recording of full-HD movies.
The Nikon D7000 camera has already been a piece of equipment in use by photographers here at Fairfax Video Studio for some time. The D7000 allows our photographers to capture beautiful video and still images, while controlling creative aspects like depth of field.
YouTube recently announced that users can upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes if they have a good history of complying with the YouTube Community Guidelines. Even though YouTube is famous for its free account and sharing capabilities, the site does control what kind of content can be posted. They won’t allow sexually explicit material, dead bodies, graphic violence and a host of other offensive topics. But perhaps the content they most strictly monitor is copyrighted material, including music. YouTube says, “YouTube staff review flagged videos 24 hours a day, seven days a week to determine whether they violate our Community Guidelines. When they do, we remove them.”
While some may see this as an infringement of free speech, YouTube is a privately owned company that is allowed to set rules for its site. As the dominant force in online video, they can’t possibly cater to every niche so they have chosen to make their site friendly to people of all ages. They will now reward some users with the ability to upload longer videos. This is a great reward for these loyal and obedient users. They will know be able to explore new possibilities and we are excited to see what they come up with. To see if your account qualifies, just try uploading a video that is longer than 15 minutes, and it will tell you if you are allowed.
For business owners, it is imperative to get on YouTube with interesting videos that are properly optimized for search engines. If you are interested in video marketing, call the Fairfax Video Studio today at 877.477.STUDIO or fill out a contact form online.
Ben Glass and his team at Great Legal Marketing recently hired Northern Virginia videographer and photographer Jim Folliard to cover their “No Smart Lawyer Left Behind” Rescue Mission in Chicago. The goal of the conference was to educate and encourage lawyers to take control of their marketing, their business and ultimately their lifestyle. For small business owners, work is more than just a way to make money. It’s a passion and a way of life.
These lawyers asked great questions and Ben Glass, as well as partners Rem Jackson of Top Practices and Tom Foster of Foster Web Marketing, had the answers. Ben Glass, the father of nine children, lawyer and owner of three businesses, had the foresight to give Jim a call and make sure he was going to be there. Most of the lawyers probably left feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of the great ideas but if this didn’t inspire them to take action, nothing will. Luckily for this group, the whole conference is captured on tape and will be available on DVD soon.
Jim’s mission was two-fold. First and foremost, he aimed to capture the speakers in 720p high-definition video with crisp, professional audio. Armed with his Sony EX-1 video camera, miles of audio cables and a few wireless microphones, he made sure that every inspiring word uttered by Ben, Rem and Tom was captured forever.
The second piece of Jim’s work is what really separates him as one of the best videographers in Northern Virginia. During breaks, he grabbed his Nikon D300s and a wireless microphone to interview the attendees and vendors. He asked a few interesting questions, made them feel at ease on camera and gathered footage that Ben Glass and Great Legal Marketing can use when marketing their next conference. Trial lawyers tend to be strong speakers and the footage turned out great. Great Legal Marketing got their money's worth because of Jim’s hard work, which will pay off this spring as they prepare for another conference in Fairfax, VA. Thanks to Ben’s tireless preparation, some help from Rem and Tom and Jim’s video expertise, the conference was a rousing success. Thanks to all who came, we’ll see in April!
Nikon has announced its latest camera and it has captured the attention of photographers and moviemakers alike. It boasts 14 mega-pixels and the ability to capture video in 1080p at 24 frames per second. Nikon, you have our attention!
Point and shoot cameras have been taking HD video for a few years, but no DSLR (digital single lens reflex) has offered a viable digital movie recording option - until now.
Point and shoot cameras thrive on their feather lightweight and pocket size portability, but they leave even semi-serious photographers with many limitations. Among these is the near impossible task of photographing objects in motion in a mirror less camera.
The Nikon D3100 will open up a new world of possibilities for amateurs and semi-pros. Not only does it shoot razor sharp pictures at up to 1/4000 of a second, but it adds the amazing ability to shoot 1080p video with constant autofocus, a first for DSLRs. It also weighs in at just over 1lb, which will make carrying it around all day a breeze.
This is the first camera that will put real video production capability in the hands of the photography masses. While real pros will always choose tools that are dedicated solely to their task, the reasonably priced D3100 will be a gateway for beginners to learn the skills it takes to produce quality videos.
$700 is a bargain for what Nikon is offering. Perhaps we should hold our horses until customers actually get them in their hands - they aren’t due to hit the market until mid-September. However, based on Nikon’s stellar reputation, we can expect this innovative camera to be another great product.

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA (July 2011) - It has been a tough spring and summer for professional football. As NFL team owners and players grapple over issues like player safety, rookie pay, and extra games, fans around the country have been in the dark about when the lockout might end and what their favorite teams and players might be thinking about the deal. In troubled times, many members of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have turned to professional video studios and the internet to keep their fans up-to-date and in the know.
Today, as NFLPA representatives gather in Washington DC to vote on the proposed collective bargaining agreement, Fairfax Video Studio will be in the office recording dozens of player messages to friends, family, and fans about the ending lockout and the quickly approaching season - videos that will be posted on the internet in the hours after their pivotal meeting. The NFLPA hopes these videos will give individual players a chance to express how they are feeling about the agreement, to thank fans for their patience, and ultimately let the world know that they are ready to return to the gridiron and play some football.
"This is the beginning of a new age in media," said Fairfax Video Studio Manager Austin Redding.
"Since the beginning of the lockout, the richer and more powerful team owners have had a greater degree of control over what the traditional broadcast television reports. Now, though, NFL players have called on internet video production teams like the one at Fairfax Video Studio to reach their audience with breaking news and up-to-the-minute information."
The Players Association believes that videos will give viewers an opportunity to hear direct messages from a large selection of their athletes - voices that are often overlooked or lost by larger news sources that often summarize events or give an advantage to the more media-savvy NFL team owners.
"With advances in web video production driving costs down and video hosting sites like YouTube growing in viewership, it is going to be more difficult than ever for large franchises to control the message," Redding said. "Web video companies like Fairfax Video Studio have leveled the playing field and allowed the players to reach their audience with messages of hope and resilience in difficult times."
According to the recent report from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers, U.S. online advertising revenues rose 15% to a record $26 billion in 2010, and fourth quarter revenues saw an 19% increase to $7.45 billion. Search was the most popular ad format in 2010, representing almost half of revenue and seeing 12% growth from 2009.
Display advertisements, which include video ads, banners, sponsorships and rich media advertising, grew 24% in 2010 to nearly $10 billion.
The Internet Advertising Bureau's inaugural estimate for U.S. mobile ad revenues for year 2010 was between $550 million and $650 million.
According to PricewaterhouseCoopers' David Silverman, "With a strong rebound from 2009, the $26 billion spent on Internet advertising points to a continued focus on digital media ad spend, with dollars catching up to eyeballs. More time spent online, especially with increases in digital video and social media, has certainly helped to fuel that continued growth."
IAB's Sherrill Mane agrees, saying "We now have had five consecutive quarters of growth since the great recession impacted interactive advertising in 2009. The record-breaking revenue in Q4 2010 and the total year indicate that interactive advertising has weathered the storm and then some."
Overall, this is encouraging news for online advertising and indicates the effectiveness of online video advertising.

Last week marked a historic, albeit somewhat bittersweet moment, as the shuttle Discovery successfully blasted into the sky toward the International Space Station. This mission will be Discovery's last--the first of three remaining shuttle launches before the United States ends its space-shuttle program of 30 years.
Discovery’s legacy of 39 flights is revered among NASA and space enthusiasts alike. The maneuver first attempted by Discovery has become part of the shuttle's legend. The historic last mission of a revered symbol of patriotic pride was chronicled in crisp, high-def online video on YouTube for the nation to see.
On Saturday, station attendants, wielding high-resolution cameras, shot a new round of images as the shuttle commander executed an eight-minute backflip around 1 p.m.
Discovery crewmembers have already scanned the edges of the wing and nose cap, the areas subjected to the most intense heat during atmospheric re-entry. After analysts finish reviewing images captured during inspections, the shuttle will be given a clean bill of health.
Thousands have shared in this historic moment through the power of online video.

It’s True: Justin Beiber, iconic haircut aside, marks an iconic turning point in the crossroads of social media, online video, entertainment and our ever-shrinking global economy.
Discovered On YouTube
Justin Bieber grew up in a small town in Canada; however he skyrocketed to international fame and revenues in the billions in less than a three-year timeframe. Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, viewed Bieber’s video on YouTube, and decided to invest the time to continue the trend.
Braun arranged the life-changing meeting for Usher and Bieber. This led to Bieber being signed by Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG), a joint venture between Braun and Usher, and then to a recording contract.
International Superstar
Whatever we may think of the tween heartthrob’s hair, there is no denying it: “Bieber Fever” has taken the world by storm. He has sold millions of records, received multiple Grammy nominations, and will be debuting his new movie “Never Say Never”.
In the words of Bieber’s manager, when asked what strategies were behind Justin’s incredible overnight success:
“…We built his YouTube channel over three years. He had a bigger YouTube channel before we even did a record deal with Usher. All the statistics pointed at the Internet, and kids are spending more time on the Internet as opposed to TV and radio…
…we had our finger on the pulse because we communicated directly with the consumer
…As Justin has become bigger and bigger, we haven’t left them behind. He continues to tweet often, post YouTube videos, and spends time on Facebook.”
Well; there you have it. Online video on YouTube is the key ingredient in Justin Beiber’s stardom—and continued success.
