Fairfax Video Studio Helps NFL Players Reach Out To Fans During Lockout
Posted on Jul 20, 2011
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA (July 2011) - It has been a tough spring and summer for professional football. As NFL team owners and players grapple over issues like player safety, rookie pay, and extra games, fans around the country have been in the dark about when the lockout might end and what their favorite teams and players might be thinking about the deal. In troubled times, many members of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have turned to professional video studios and the internet to keep their fans up-to-date and in the know.
Today, as NFLPA representatives gather in Washington DC to vote on the proposed collective bargaining agreement, Fairfax Video Studio will be in the office recording dozens of player messages to friends, family, and fans about the ending lockout and the quickly approaching season - videos that will be posted on the internet in the hours after their pivotal meeting. The NFLPA hopes these videos will give individual players a chance to express how they are feeling about the agreement, to thank fans for their patience, and ultimately let the world know that they are ready to return to the gridiron and play some football.
"This is the beginning of a new age in media," said Fairfax Video Studio Manager Austin Redding.
"Since the beginning of the lockout, the richer and more powerful team owners have had a greater degree of control over what the traditional broadcast television reports. Now, though, NFL players have called on internet video production teams like the one at Fairfax Video Studio to reach their audience with breaking news and up-to-the-minute information."
The Players Association believes that videos will give viewers an opportunity to hear direct messages from a large selection of their athletes - voices that are often overlooked or lost by larger news sources that often summarize events or give an advantage to the more media-savvy NFL team owners.
"With advances in web video production driving costs down and video hosting sites like YouTube growing in viewership, it is going to be more difficult than ever for large franchises to control the message," Redding said. "Web video companies like Fairfax Video Studio have leveled the playing field and allowed the players to reach their audience with messages of hope and resilience in difficult times."
