Online Video Changed My Life
Posted on Jan 26, 2011
With a YouTube video that received more than three million views within three days, Danny MacAskill skyrocketed to a new world—and a new life.
Roommate Dave Sowerby shot a short five minute clip in April 2009 featuring Daniel’s stunt riding.
Three short days later, a star was born; media coverage and offers followed.
The Scotland native now known as 'Taggart' and 'Danny MegaSkill' left his career as a humble mechanic to become a professional rider for Inspired Bicycles, Ltd., shortly after the video aired.
In later releases, the newly crowned stunt star states that he never imagined the video would change his life so drastically. He owes the huge change in career, lifestyle and achievement to one YouTube video shot, “as a lark”, for fun.
As of November 19, 2010, a sequel video was launched. Hotly anticipated, its success was just as large as the first.
The film shows Danny travelling with his friend (now acclaimed filmmaker) Dave Sowerby, performing stunts at Edinburgh Castle, leaping onto and over bridges and rocky terrain in the Scottish Highlands… pursuing his dream.
Yet another star is born—thanks to the incredible power of online video.
