Presidential Candidates Romney & Obama Utilize Web Video
Posted on May 31, 2012
It used to be that presidential candidates traveled the country by railroad, stopping at city stations to give campaign speeches from the caboose. In more recent years, presidential hopefuls have bought up television ad space to state their position and criticize the other guy. But in 2012, there’s practically only one thing that republicans and democrats can agree on: web video is a great way to reach voters, share your ideas, and save campaign dollars.
Just this week, GOP candidate Mitt Romney released a web video centered on America’s unemployed and discussed Obama’s economic policies over the last four years. The video, called “A Few of the 23 Million,” also touts Romney’s promise to focus on jobs and the economy if he wins the office.
During the same week, President Barack Obama’s team produced a web video focusing on Mitt Romney’s past with Bain Capital, in which they link Romney’s involvement with the closure of plants and hundreds of lay-offs. Another Obama web video unveiled the campaign’s new slogan (“Forward”) and touts the President’s successes over the last term.
With fewer Americans watching television commercials and more Americans playing web videos, online videos seem like the natural choice for political candidates – especially considering their low cost and viral tendencies.
